The French, known as "the frogs" (thanks to US Servicemen in World War I) began adding roasted, ground chicory to coffee in times when coffee was scarce to extend the coffee. They developed a taste for coffee with chicory and kept drinking it brewed that way when the shortages ended. They took their coffee with chicory habit with them to Louisiana when Louisiana was a French territory.

Rue Saint-Honoré celebrates this coffee with chicory heritage by offering Carburant de grenoille, "Frog Fuel".

We roast this coffee to a medium dark ("Vienna") roast. Because we add the ground chicory, this coffee is not available as Whole Bean; it is only available pre-ground.

Try it NOLA (New Orleans LouisianA) style by adding a tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk - it is great tasting whether served hot or on ice!
